Fantasy…from the Book to the Big Screen!
December 1, 2007 by mbrumsted
The magic of fantasy on the pages of a book translates beautifully to action-filled movies. This holiday season, several new children’s books are coming soon to a theatre near you! Find them on the shelf first, and let us know which books you think were best on the big screen.
- The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman (FIC PUL)…12/7/07
- The Waterhorse by Dick King Smith (FIC KIN)…12/25/07
- The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi & Holly Black (FIC DIT)…2/15/08

I have not seen any of the movies, but I would really like to see the Spiderwick Chronicles. I have read the book, and I love to request the books to my students. They are great books for kids who have a difficult time finding a book they like. Once they read the first book they usually want to continue with the series. I love that movie producers are turning to kids books for ideas for movies. There are never enough good kid movies. I know in my class when kids see that the movie is coming out they get excited and want to pick up the book to read. I love that it encourages the kids to read more.
